Blockchain and big data as emerging solutions for fog challenges: An impeccable study

In the last few years, a huge expansion has been seen in Internet of things (IoT) devices. With it, the need for computing technologies has emerged as a vast industry to support the execution of various latency sensitive issues of IoTs and computing intensive IoT applications and the IoT ecosystem as a whole. Fog computing, as a result, was introduced to solve latency and computation issues. However, fog computing may pose security and privacy concerns. This paper aims to recognize and discuss the various security issues related to fog computing. This paper also discusses how technologies like blockchain and Big Data can help to mitigate the various challenges of fog computing. The findings of this paper reveal that blockchain can meet the security and privacy issues and big data can help to mitigate the scalability and reliability issues of fog computing. With this study it is also revealed that blockchain and big data come with a number of challenges that need to be looked into more in the context of fog computing.
