The Jostle SystemA Baked Solution to Environmental Interaction Sounds
Alex Pappas · 2023
By populating gameplay maps with systems capable of simulating the sounds of walking through shrubbery or bumping into objects, you can add a great deal of life to your game, especially when many of these objects are rendered using immobile static meshes. Due to the nature of game development and the unique needs of every game, often the most straightforward implementation of such a feature is not always feasible. Together, we will build the framework for a Jostle System which offers a non-invasive method of associating jostle sounds with placed static meshes and is also capable of automatically handling the work of updating this data for all gameplay maps.
