Security Issues in Centralized Spectrum Allocation in Cognitive Radio Networks

The issue of unused spectrum can be resolved by using Cognitive Radio (CR) technologies. The allotment of vacant free spectrum to unlicensed users is a fundamental function in Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs). Assuming users have fair intentions, a number of successful resource assignment schemes have been put out in the past. Malicious users, however, have the potential to negatively affect resource allocation and, as a result, seriously harm the network's performance as a whole. In this study, we discuss the vulnerabilities that may occur in CRN spectrum allocation as a result of a Network Endo-Parasite Attack (NEPA), in which the malignant node alters its interfaces to densely loaded channels, i.e., highly used channels. Using simulation-based studies, we analyse and evaluate the effects of NEPA with different performance measures and also compare with Channel Ecto-Parasite Attack (CEPA) attack.
