The new generation of database management systems, also known as NoSQL (Not-only-SQL) database management systems, appeared to solve the large variety of challenges raised by big data. On one hand, they offer unmatched performance advantages compared to relational database systems. On the other hand, NoSQL database management systems evolve at a very fast pace and are more challenging to understand and master, compared to relational database management systems. The fact that each NoSQL database management system has its own query language raises additional challenges for users (both experts and non-experts in computer science) in working or starting to work with them. Visual Query Systems can help in addressing this challenge by offering a more intuitive way of interacting with the database server. Based on a conceptual model which uses conceptual graphs to represent database structure and queries, we propose a Visual Query System for Apache Cassandra, the leading NoSQL database management system of the wide column stores DB-Engines ranking.
