Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality Technologies for Enabling Metaverse

This chapter discusses the importance and recent innovations of virtual reality (VR)/augmented reality/mixed reality technologies for enabling Metaverse and explores the emerging challenges that arise from these innovations. The Metaverse framework furthers the concept of transference of human consciousness by scaling VR into a virtual world. The immersive realism of the Metaverse is the primary factor in the transference of user consciousness. The chapter outlines the definition and progressive development of the technology to the current state of the art. The current state of VR technology is at a well-developed stage to enable access to the Metaverse. The Metaverse can offer a new medium for human interaction in a shared virtual space. The chapter helps the engineers to understand the future works and challenges of Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality technology within the Metaverse.
