Sara Modarres Razavi, Mythri Hunukumbure, Domenico Giustiniano · 2023
This chapter explores the positioning standardization developments within the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). In the following sections, we first summarize what has been standardized already prior to 5G, second, we give an overview of standardization support for 5G in different releases, and finally we conclude the chapter with some principles which can be already exploited with 5G technology, but which are not yet part of the standardization, as well as the topics which are in the 5G-Advanced positioning scope within Release 18. The continuation of this final part is further explored in the next chapter in which the potential 6G positioning concepts are investigated.
