In Chapter 6 , we discussed common foundational design patterns in iOS and how they help form the foundation of good architecture by helping you to structure your code and improve modularity and testability. In addition to the previously mentioned design patterns, there is a class of design patterns geared toward the iOS application layer design, application-wide design patterns. Application-wide design patterns address the application layer structure, how it is modularized, the control flow, and the data flow. This is the first chapter where we will address application-wide architecture patterns, and we will start with the most basic of them all, the model view controller (MVC) pattern.
