Daniel H. Baker · Oxford University Press eBooks · 2022

This chapter introduces the R programming language, which is freely available for all major operating systems. It explains the significance of Rstudio in the development of the core R language. RStudio has several customizable options to improve accessibility through the sections of Preferences and Appearance. Moreover, the help function is a great way of finding out more about a specific R function. The chapter then discusses the examples of R syntax for fundamental programming concepts such as scripts, data objects, functions, packages, conditional statements, and loops. It presents a table of the useful core R functions and their respective description.
