Emerging 5G services and new disaggregated RAN split architectures drive new requirements for transport and synchronization networks. This chapter examines the new requirements, proposes new transport and synchronization solutions, and provides a summary of testing specifications defined by the O-RAN Open Xhaul Transport Networks Working Group (WG9). The new requirements are motivated by specifications in O-RAN and other SDOs such as O-RAN Fronthaul Interface (WG4), IEEE, and ITU-T. Furthermore, this chapter provides summaries of new proposed architectures and solutions. Chapter covers eWDM-based Fronthaul network solutions, Packet-Switched Architectures and Solutions, Synchronization Architectures and Solutions, and Management interface. The chapter closes with a list of testing specifications against the proposed requirements and solutions.
