Review of Modern Symmetric and Asymmetric Cryptographic Techniques

The increasing interchange of data over the internet has bought information security to the forefront. Understanding how to secure sensitive information is critical now that data are becoming increasingly valuable and easily accessible. In this paper, we present an overview of some common and popular symmetric encryption and asymmetric encryption techniques used to secure citizens’ sensitive information. Definitions and terminology are provided as required. The merits and demerits of commonly used techniques are also discussed in detail.
