Multifragmentation and Associated Phenomenon: Recent Progress and New Challenges

Arun Sharma, Rajeev K. Puri · 2023

The nuclear multifragmentation phenomenon was predicted for the first time by Bondrof in 1976 and studied since the early 1980s. The real advances in the field of multifragmentation were only made with the advent of efficient and more powerful 4p detectors. With the help of experimental facilities, early attempts were carried out to put some light on the complex picture of heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies by performing emulsion experiments. As far as theoretical understanding of multifragmentation is concerned, several theoretical models have been developed (or still developing) and these models provide an opportunity to extract knowledge from the experimental observables. In some cases, using different models makes the situation much more complicated. Theoretically, one can study the multifragmentation at intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions with the help of two broad approaches: statistical and dynamical models.
