Ardian Isufi, Marika Apostolova · 2023
Software development start-ups are founded each day, and the use of latest technologies such as cloud infrastructure and cloud services have made it much easier the daily maintenance of the company processes and products. However, contrary to what usually the impression is formed from the success of big start-ups, according to several authors only a small number of start-ups succeed in the market and the main reason why these software start-ups do not survive mostly it is not the idea or competition environment where they are operating but usually it is how these start-ups are managed. Considering the growing number of start-ups and the lack of research in the risk identification and assessment for these types of companies in our region we focus on this research to understand what are the main risks that software development start-ups are facing during a process of using cloud infrastructure and cloud services and how they are handling them to minimize their effect in company daily routine and its sustainability. Thus, the main purpose of this study is to identify to the best possible extent, the main risks that are affecting the normal flow and the outcome of a project in a software development start-up by using the cloud computing platforms. Specifically, through a qualitative research approach through a case-studies, we will explore the risks related to the organization, resources -both human and technology, and internal/ external factors
