Exploration of Simplified Adaptation Functions for Adaptive Pre-Distortion Implementations

In the adaptive digital pre-distortion systems, adaptation functions are used to update the LUT (Look-Up Table) contents or polynomial coefficients iteratively. For the optimal DPD (Digital Pre-Distortion) performance and the hardware cost, four different simplified adaptation functions are generated and used in a LUT-based DPD implementation. The proposed adaptation functions are simulated using various baseband signals. Without a considerable DPD performance degradation, the hardware cost is reduced from complex multiplication and exponential to simple addition, switching and complement operations.
