Music Note Detection Using Matrix Pencil Method

Musical note detection is a field that has been studied throughout the years and is still improving. There have been successful studies proposed, as well as numerous music software programs. This paper attempts to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on this subject. Unlike traditional Fourier-based approaches, Matrix Pencil Method (MPM) is used for detecting and identifying signal parameters. The algorithm is explained step by step, problems faced are discussed, and solutions proposed. Finally, software for detecting musical notes of monophonic songs has been developed. The suggested algorithm has been tested on two distinct songs and the note accuracy rate of the algorithm for these two songs was determined as 95.22 percent and 89.97 percent.
