Augmented reality (AR) has become increasingly popular in the healthcare industry, offering revenue opportunities for organizations with AR experience. Unlike virtual reality (VR), which creates a new universe, AR overlays digital information over the actual environment using screens, cameras, and sensors. Although not a new concept, recent breakthroughs in camera and sensor technology, as well as AR-focused software development, have made AR more viable than ever. AR is expected to revolutionize the healthcare industry in the coming years, and many medical professionals already use AR applications daily to improve patient education and outcomes. Although the first AR platform to get widespread public attention, Google Glass, was not commercially successful, it has found a place in enterprise and healthcare, highlighting the value of augmented reality even at this early stage. Many businesses, including Microsoft, are currently working to set the groundwork for the AR revolution. AR technology is already being used in medical training, allowing trainees to practice complex surgical procedures in a risk-free environment. During surgery, AR can display vital patient information in real-time, improving the accuracy of procedures and reducing the likelihood of errors. AR can also be used to provide patients with access to interactive educational materials that help them understand their medical conditions and treatments, improving patient outcomes. In conclusion, AR is expected to grow in popularity in healthcare, revolutionizing the way medical professionals and patients interact with medical information and technology. AR can improve patient outcomes by providing education and accurate information, and the technology has significant potential in the field of medicine.
