Acceptance and Rejection of the Apex Service

In terms of the acceptance of the Apex service that a very similar response to the offer of the Apex service is given by both samples – 49·3 per cent of the Wormwood Scrubs sample and 52·5 per cent of the Pentonville sample fully accepted the Apex service. In considering the differences between those accepting and those rejecting the Apex service, clearly it is not worthwhile to continue discussing the two prison samples separately. In addition, the categories of ‘partial acceptance – specific requests’ and ‘partial acceptance – limited interest’ have been combined and the eleven men in the miscellaneous group have been disregarded. This means that, combining the two prison samples, there are 229 men in the full acceptance group, 56 in the partial acceptance group and 154 in the rejection group. The schedule was largely composed of items which were available from the prison record, or, where this was incomplete, from the Criminal Record Office.
