The Job Interviews Arranged by Apex

Keith Soothill · 2023

The basic idea of the Apex project was to find a suitable job interview on release for all the men interviewed in prison who wished to participate. This chapter focuses on the 221 men who were thought to have fully accepted Apex service in the sense that they wanted the director of Apex to find them work on release. It indicates the fields of employment for two prison samples in which the men would like work after release. More accurately, they represent employment plans discussed with the director of Apex and the areas in which he had agreed to make at least some enquiries. Of the men who subsequently decided to make their own arrangements, one’s father found him a job as a lorry driver’s mate, two others had decided to try to return to former employers but wanted to avoid any contact with the firms until after release as they wished to hide the fact of their criminal record.
