The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) has led to an exponential increase in network traffic, which has serious implications on energy utilization and network performance. For cloud data centres, a power-saving traffic control method utilising server vacation is suggested. The core idea is that the Virtual Machines (VM) in the cloud infrastructure may take a vacation by utilising Software-Defined Network (SDN) technologies. Reducing active VMs is the goal of the energy-saving optimisation activity while maintaining QoS criteria. This study focuses on a queuing system with multiple servers, a finite buffer, multiple vacations, and impatient client behavior. By applying certain customer retention policies, impatience clients can be retained in the cloud infrastructure. Using recurrences, the steady-state probabilities have been obtained for the proposed SDN-assisted cloud system. Different performance studies of the proposed system are done to obtain the validity of the system.
