Rohan Sawant, Deepa A. Joshi, Radhika Menon · 2023

Blockchain is the latest technological development for ensuring security, trust, and authenticity. Blockchain technology can also provide support for legal issues as it has the capability to manag the information, history, and activities performed by the individuals using blocks. Implementation of blockchain technology in various sectors of the construction industry is indispensable today, and land registration is one of the important sectors most suitable for blockchain implementation. The land registration process and the records are susceptible to manual alteration, ownership issues, loss, or damage due to natural disasters. A safe and secure digital system, with well-defined procedures, ensuring government rules can provide a trustworthy service to users, is needed. In this chapter, the suitability of blockchain implementation for land registration is discussed in detail. Also, the challenges in implementation are discussed. A hybrid model is developed, which is a combination of blockchain and manual inputs, wherever required. This hybrid model will provide an effective solution by considering the practical challenges in implementation.
