Link Aware Multipath Routing to Defend Against Black Hole Attacks for MANETs

MANET’s are self-configuring nodes that employ wireless network to connect. The ad-hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV) is a widely used protocol for data transmission in mobile ad hoc networks (Manets), which are prone to many black hole attacks. There is a secure MANET routing protocol called SAODV to address the security issues associated with the AODV protocol and reduce any attacks on the MANET. Due to mobile characteristics, nodes can join or leave the network at any time and their movement results in dynamic topology. In MANETs, the existence of malicious nodes potentially triggers serious security issues. These nodes could interfere with the routing operation or disrupt the data transmissions. Sometimes the network cannot avoid the black hole. So, this paper introduces a secure manet routing protocol called BP-AODV to overcome the security issues related to the SAODV protocol by being energy aware of all the nodes, which otherwise leads to transmission delays. MANETs could be exposed to several threats that hinder its operation and accessibility. Blackhole attack is considered to be the most active attack that degrades the network performance by intentionally dropping the packets. In this paper we propose a secure multipath scheme to defend collaborative blackhole attack (SMCBA) in MANET’s. SMCBA scheme employs timer based chaotic map and baiting method to detect and isolate the malicious node. Simulation experiments are carried on NS2 by exploring different scenarios.
