Message from the IPDPS 2023 Workshops Chair and Vice-chair

2023

Message from the 2023 Workshops Chair and Vice-chairWelcome to IEEE IPDPS 2023 and in particular to its workshops. It has been an IPDPS tradition to hold workshops on Monday preceding the main events and on Friday following the main events. This year we have a total of 21 workshops spread over these two days.Together these events bring over 150 peerreviewed papers, which are part of programs that include invited talks, posters, and interaction with attendees. We are looking forward to the programs that will be presented this year. The list of 21 workshops are continuing workshops from previous years, some of them long-running for well over two decades, and some of them are newer, added recently to the program over the last couple of years.Recently added workshops focus on several timely topics and themes, including scalable AI and machine learning, their applications, and other emerging topics such as quantum computing. This blend between old and new in our workshops program reflects the ever-and rapidly-changing landscape of the parallel and distributed computing field. It was a great pleasure to work with the organizers of such a diverse group of workshops, including organizers from multiple continents.Organizing a workshop takes dedication. It takes investment of time and energy to publicize the workshop, evaluate papers, and arrange the program. The contribution of the workshops and their organizers to the community in creating networking opportunities between people from diverse geographic, cultural, and scientific backgrounds cannot be overstated. The IPDPS organization committee thanks all of the involved individuals for their hard work and invites all participants to thank them.Running a conference like IPDPS is a big effort and requires an able team.We are fortunate to have the Steering Committee Chair Viktor Prasanna to lead the team, and General Chairs Anu Bourgeois and Jie Wu, and the Program Chairs Gagan Agrawal and Devesh Tiwari, who together with all the volunteers make the conference happen. This year we, Ananth and Suren, had the pleasure of serving as the workshop chair and workshop vicechair for the second time.It was with the wisdom passed on from earlier chairs, and support provided with an excellent support staff and team of dedicated volunteers that we were able to pull together this program.More specifically, past workshop chairs Erik Saule, Jaroslaw Zola, Ümit Çatalyürek, and Bora Uçar were also available to consult and share experience whenever the need arose.Zhuozhao Li repeated as the Proceedings Vice-chair for the workshops and worked together with the Proceedings Chair Kyle Chard to make sure the proceedings were prepared with the highest quality. It requires meticulously surveying the workshops and their programs and making sure that the papers were properly recorded for publication. Both Zhuozhao and Kyle deserve a big thank you for all their efforts.xxiv
