The rapidly evolving landscape of high-performance computing (HPC) has witnessed the emergence of increasingly large and energy-efficient computer systems. These systems comprise heterogeneous computing units, such as CPUs, GPUs, and FPGAs, alongside diverse storage systems with high memory bandwidth. The integration of persistent memory into PCIe buses or memory DIMMs has blurred the distinction between storage and memory.Additionally, some systems feature multiple compute node types, were groups of nodes form accelerators within modular supercomputing architectures.Hierarchical storage solutions, including burst buffers, address the persistent IO challenges. However, programming these complex systems presents numerous challenges, including locality, scheduling, load balancing, and concurrency.
