R Lab 1 Basics

Familiarity with software such as right (R) allows users to visualize data, run statistical tests, and apply machine learning algorithms. R also has a number of basic data structures. A data structure is either homogeneous (all elements are of the same data type) or heterogeneous (elements can be of more than one data type). Many operations in R make heavy use of vectors. One of the most confusing subjects in R is subsetting the data containers. R stores matrices and arrays in a similar manner as vectors, but with the attribute called dimension. Matrices are homogeneous data structures, just like atomic vectors, but they can have two dimensions, rows and columns, unlike vectors.
