Wide-Area Network (WAN) has a great demand from the start as it is used for the communication across the globe. But the traditional WAN has many limitations in security aspect such as cyberattacks, managing the network. It is insecure and the sensitive data might be stolen by the third-party vendors. Transferring data over WAN is expensive. Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) can be used to control the boundaries of WAN. SD-WAN, which is a virtual WAN architecture enables enterprises to permit any multiple transport services including Long Term Evolution (LTE), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), and other broadband internet services. It is more reliable in terms of security and performance. It can be used for sharing critical data between company branches, data centers and many.SD-WAN is complicated than WAN as SD-WAN will have virtualized connection that is abstracted from the physical connection. This article provides an overview of SD-WAN architecture and explores the potential benefits as well as challenges associated with SD-WAN implementation.
