A Zigbee IoT Enabled Trash Bin Level Monitoring System

Benitha Christinal J, S Aswitha., Hubli Keerthana, Nagasubramanian Aishwarya · 2023

Cities still struggle with the management of solid waste, which has serious negative effects on the environment and public health. Solid waste is handled by strategically placing trash cans across the city. These containers could overflow, polluting the environment and causing problems for humans. It is necessary to have a remote surveillance apparatus that notifies in real-time a waste management company or the appropriate authorities to the amount of trash in trash cans. The proposed system outlines the creation and approval of an IoT-enabled, IoT-BLMS for self-powered garbage bin level monitoring for efficient solid waste management. The garbage Bin Level System Measurement Unit (BLSMU) keeps track of a garbage can’s unfilled level and geographic location, then evaluates and transmits the information to a cloud platform. Users can view and assess each bin’s geolocation and state using a dashboard. The accuracy, typical current consumption and life expectancy, battery charging time, and cost of the planned system were examined and reported here.
