Informal BNF terms are in italics: if (scalar-logical-expr) action-stmt Square brackets in italics indicate optional items: end if [name] and an ellipsis represents an arbitrary number of repeated items: [ case selector [name]] block ] … The italic letter b signifies a blank character.
