Abstract This paper deals with the dynamics of a load sensing system. The load sensing system is one of the most effective means to save energy. This kind of system, however, has an inherent demerit that it often falls into instability, which may be caused by the interaction between the load sensing mechanism and the load. It is important, therefore, to investigate the dynamic characteristics of a load sensing system. In the present paper, both experimental and simulation studies are performed. By making use of experimental results, a suitable mathematical model of the whole system is obtained. The effects of system parameters on the stability of the system are investigated using this model.
