Strategies on the English-Chinese Translation of Petroleum Engineering English

Based on Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory, this article delves into the language features of petroleum engineering English from the three dimensions of vocabulary, syntax and discourse. With practical translation examples for illustration, several translation strategies are developed at each level respectively, such as contextual domestication, ground supplement, unity in form and spirit, transfer from dynamic to static at lexical level; flexibility in form, adjustment of word order and division at syntactical level; recognition and reconstitution in discourse, which have certain referential value for the E-C Translation of petroleum engineering English and the international connectivity of petroleum.
