This article presents a brief overview of the origins and growth of the Electron Devices Society (EDS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) over the last seven decades. It is found that the origins of EDS lie on 5 March 1952 as the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) Professional Group on Electron Devices which became EDS on 17 February 1976. The article also presents the growth of diverse top-tiered professional journals as well as sponsored meetings and conferences on topics of growing interest to electron devices community.
