R Scripts and R Packages

Kamarul Imran Musa, Wan Nor Arifin, Tengku Muhammad Hanis · 2023

This chapter shows how to write simple R scripts and install R packages. It explains how to create a new RStudio project. R packages are extensions to the R statistical programming language. R packages contain code, data and documentation in a standardized collection format that can be installed by users of R, typically via a centralized software repository such as the Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN). CRAN task views aim to provide some guidance which packages on CRAN are relevant for tasks related to a certain topic. They give a brief overview of the included packages and can be automatically installed using the ctv package. Many data analysts use data stored on their local machines. R will read data and usually store this data in data frame format or class. RStudio has provided a website to host online books, the Bookdown. The books at Bookdown are freely accessible online.
