In most cases, the software is the most expensive aspect of a computer-based system. The difference between generating a profit and losing money is due to an incorrect estimate of the amount of effort necessary to build a complex customised system. A number of researchers, working over the course of several decades, have devoted much time and energy to the creation of improved effort estimation models. This research describes and evaluates the many methods proposed for software effort estimate. We summarise the results of several research that have estimated labour intensity using various parametric and nonparametric techniques. This document is useful for researchers since it summarises the many approaches to estimating labour needs, making it easier for them to determine which approach to use for a certain project.
