Time Data Analysis
Anders Brandt · 2023
In modern measurement and analysis systems for noise and vibration analysis, it is usually possible to record time signals for later analysis. In many software packages, the time data can then be processed with functions such as filtering and statistics. The aim of this chapter is to introduce some fundamental aspects of digital signals and time domain processing of time discrete signals, necessary to understand in order to correctly analyze time signals. Such processing is often referred to as time series analysis . This chapter will by necessity be brief and introductory in nature. Still, I hope the information will be useful for the non-expert practitioner or for example mechanical and civil engineering students, enabling them to use the information provided to perform some important analysis tasks such as resampling, and octave filtering, in the time domain. Electrical engineering students may also find some otherwise not so readily available information on applications of signal processing. For example, this chapter includes some filters for integration and differentiation of time signals not readily available in most textbooks.
