Creating Atmospheres with LL

This chapter addresses the creative processes and musical structures developed by the producer and multi-instrumentalist Tiago Oliveira in his pieces 3 AM Sessions and Sci-Fi/Ambient Improvisation . Thus, the purpose of this chapter is to understand the function of live looping (LL) as a means to creating the sound atmospheres present in his musical projects. The methodology used is a qualitative one, with data collected from an interview with Tiago carried out on February 28, 2021 via email, and based on a literature review on LL. To analyse the musical practices of Tiago Oliveira we will discuss some issues about looping tools, their possibilities, and the impacts they have on the practices of composers and performers.
