Challenges and Opportunities Toward Integration of IoT with Cloud Computing

The Internet of Things (IoT) is an Internet-based paradigm that integrates several electronic devices and multiple interconnected technologies such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, RFID, and WSN to share information. The connected devices in IoT continuously generate a massive amount of data. Cloud computing is a centralized server that houses various computer resources and allows users to access such resources. The enormous amounts of data produced by the IoT can be easily stored, analyzed, and managed using cloud computing. IoT and cloud computing are complementary technologies usually addressed in the context of thinking about technical services and working together to create a more effective IoT solution. This chapter presents the basic introduction of cloud computing and IoT, an architecture model for integrating IoT with cloud computing, and how IoT relates to cloud computing. We discuss different challenges and opportunities in integrating IoT with cloud computing. Finally, the chapter is concluded with some research challenges and future directions.
