Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks are a significant threat to the availability and performance of computer networks, including Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs). MANETs are particularly vulnerable to DDoS attacks due to their decentralized nature and lack of a fixed infrastructure. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for detecting and preventing DDoS attacks in MANETs. Our approach involves using a combination of intrusion detection and prevention techniques. We use anomaly-based intrusion detection to identify abnormal traffic patterns in the network. Once an attack is detected, we employ various prevention mechanisms, including packet filtering and rate limiting, to mitigate the attack and prevent it from affecting the network performance. To evaluate the effectiveness of our approach, we conducted a series of simulations using the Network Simulator-2 (NS-2) framework. The results show that our approach can effectively detect and prevent DDoS attacks in MANETs, while minimizing the impact on legitimate traffic.
