Due to the rapid growth of different types of cyber-attacks and threats, traditional security solutions are not sufficient to meet today's security challenges.The use of machine learning techniques is essential to provide automated security systems that are dynamically improved and updated through the analysis of security data.In this article, we give an overview of machine learning technique and its applications, highlighting how they can extract valuable insights from network data and using them for intelligent data analysis and security automation of the network.The future of machine learning in cyber security, according to our research, as well as related research directions, are finally highlighted.Our aim is to analyze current and future applicability of machine learning and related methods in cyber security.
