From Server Boxes to Virtualization – Catalyst of Cloud Computing

We have touched on the “too many server boxes in the ICT (Information & Communication Technology) room” situation in Chapter 4 introduction. Also, we have mentioned that software is the solution to go for. But how does that work? The answer is software solutions via virtualization. We need to change the one server to one box ratio to one server to multiple (virtual) boxes ratio through virtualization, which means software simulation. Now, we may have only one server in the room, but on top of the one server, we have multiple ICT functions up and running such as firewall, email, web, load balancer, etc. This way, we save cost, room, power, and administration resources and have ICT workloads running more efficiently.
