Cybersecurity and Human Factors
Natasha Cecilia Edeh · 2023
Human factors have been identified as the “weakest link” in cybersecurity by organizations and researchers alike. Generally, intentional and unintentional human errors amount to many security breaches and incidents in organizations, resulting in substantial financial losses. There has been a recent paradigm shift in solving security issues by embracing an interdisciplinary approach. However, the focus on human factors and how they can be used as a cybersecurity solution has been vastly ignored and under-researched. This chapter aims to bring attention to the fact that the overlooked human factors in cybersecurity can be leveraged to solve cybersecurity issues. This chapter uses a selection method to search and analyze relevant literature on human factors in cybersecurity. Sixteen articles were analyzed to get themes that can help the arguments that human factors can play a positive security role in organizations. This chapter concludes with recommendations for future research.
