Ethical Aspects of Cybersecurity in E-Commerce

Data are the lifeblood of any business, and they could be a success or failure for a business. With the increasing number of e-commerce platforms, ethical issues are also rising at digital speed. Cybersecurity is one of the necessities of today’s business world, as systems consist of valuable and sensitive information and are used by businesses to protect their relevant data from theft or damage. The e-commerce ecosystem is facing financial and reputational damage while handling its relevant business data. Ethical issues manifest in the business of e-commerce while handling the processing or storage of data. Data storage can be a concern for big companies in managing their data through an information system. Data processing includes the conversion of raw data into a useful form. Protection of privacy is one of the major areas of concern in e-commerce, and it could be achieved by adopting ethical norms related to cybersecurity in the best possible manner. Ethical conduct includes avoidance of harm to others, honesty, trustworthiness, maintaining confidentiality, privacy concerns, fair policies and non-discrimination, credentials for intellectual property, respect towards copyrights and patents, and contributions towards human beings and society in general. Emerging practices are required to be developed in risk management through cybersecurity. The purpose of the chapter is to determine the ethical issues regarding cybersecurity in e-commerce and those required to manage cybersecurity as a relevant matter of ethics in today’s digital world. Focus is also given to studying future trends in e-commerce businesses. Cybersecurity is a necessity in a fast-paced and emerging digital world. In today’s digital scenario, it is necessary to follow ethical standards to secure the privacy of the e-commerce framework’s data.
