Keylogger Detection: A Systematic Review

Keyloggers are a form of spyware that monitors the activities carried out on a computer system and stores sensitive information such as the keystrokes made by the user and stores it in a file to be sent to third-parties. Keyloggers have also been used as a tool for cybercriminals to steal sensitive information such as email passwords, credit card pins, passwords to sites that contain more sensitive information, e-payment details, chat records from users. Keyloggers are a major threat to the security of information and can cause the loss of large amounts of data thereby affecting the confidentiality of data. This article reviews recent works in the development and detection of keyloggers, the strategies and criteria considered in the selection of relevant publications, their models, as well as their results for future reference on the subject. Finally, the study proffers solutions that helps user stay secured against this form of cyberattacks.
