Computational Linguistic Semiotics

Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa · 2023

This chapter discusses computational linguistic semiotics through a variety of issues: from sections across a historiography of computation, to analog and digital machines, to definitions of computation, computational architecture, computer languages, computability, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), to aspects of Natural Language Processing (NLP) in relation to both text and image generation in Generative Adversarial Networks and Diffusion Models. The discussion both analyzes and problematizes the advantages and issues to overcome in computational linguistics in relation to architecture representation. Note: A partial version of this chapter in regard to NLP and the activation of emergent programming through Simulation (Structural and Computational Fluid Dynamic Simulation CFD) was submitted for blind Peer Review Process for ACADIA 2022: Lorenzo-Eiroa, P. “Activating Higher Programming Language and Self-Simulation Through Natural Language Processing (NLP)” ACADIA 2022 peer review process in July 2022 (not accepted due to late submission). A partial version of this chapter was published in Lorenzo-Eiroa, P. “Form In:Form: On The Relationship Between Digital Signifiers and Formal Autonomy”, in Architecture in Formation, ed. Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa and Aaron Sprecher, Routledge/Taylor and Francis, London 2013.
