Overview of the Critical Pathway to Insider Risk (CPIR) framework

In Chapter 2, we described the evolution of the CPIR from hypotheses raised after a decade of case studies to more recent empirical review of databases on insider activities. We then provided an in-depth review of each CPIR element, including examples from historical cases. We finally used the case study of then-Private Manning to illustrate the use of the CPIR for risk analysis. We discussed some of the limitations of the CPIR as a descriptive model of insider risk and discussed how it is being found useful to investigators.
