GESTURE RECOGNITION (SIGN LANGUAGE DETECTION)

International Research Journal of Modernization in Engineering Technology and Science · 2023

Gesture recognition technology has seen significant progress in recent years, with applications ranging from entertainment to healthcare. This research paper presents a Sign Language Detection System for the deaf, which utilizes the MediaPipe Holistic model and OpenCV to detect and track human body key points in realtime video streams. The system extracts the keypoint values for the face, pose, and hand landmarks and stores them in arrays for further analysis. The extracted keypoints can be used for gesture recognition, action detection, and health monitoring. The proposed system aims to bridge the communication gap for the deaf by enabling them to communicate through sign language. The accuracy and performance of the system were evaluated and show promising results for practical implementation. This research paper aims to contribute to the advancement of gesture recognition technology and promote its application in improving the quality of life for the deaf community.
