An illustration of assembling a push-button device to control the Carstens AG501 electromagnetic articulograph

This paper illustrates the procedure of assembling a simple push-button device to start and terminate sweeps of the Carstens AG501 electromagnetic articulograph (Carstens Medizinelektronik GmbH). The device will be connected to the Sybox (a data synchronization box) of the machine in place of the pedal that came with the manufacturer. The aim of this instruction is to guide phoneticians and speech scientists (without prior knowledge of electronics) working with this equipment to build a similar control device on their own with minimum cost.
