A study of current status and suggestions for a better future on corpus-based near-synonym researches in modern Chinese

Eun‐Kyung Lee, Heejoung Gwon · Korea Journal of Chinese Linguistics · 2023

This study started from the recognition that related corpus-based language research in our academia is still far from international achievements in many areas, given the entire history of 60 years of research in the field. Therefore, we reviewed our research on corpus-based Chinese near-synonym studies and sought directions for better future research.First, this paper briefly introduced a total of 14 existing studies in the field of Chinese language academics in Korea. In addition, the research types were divided according to the range of collocations investigated, the scope of application of statistical methods, the size of the corpus used, and the degree of qualitative analysis, and at the same time, discussed the advantages and limitations of each type. Finally, as a suggestion for future development, we propose (1) to have reproducibility; (2) to consider syntactic collocations rather than simply close collocations; (3) that quantitative and qualitative analysis will be better matched analytically; (4) to understand and apply various advanced statistical techniques.
