The Biometric cryptosystem employs numerous techniques for safeguarding templates that uses key to secure the data. The role of biometrics in cryptosystem leaves the necessity of recall passwords as the data access is provided based on successful biometric authentication. The efficiency and effectiveness of a BCS depends on the strength and robustness of its key. This study describes an innovative technique for creating biometric keys based on Binary Robust Independent Elementary Features (BRIEF). With produced key, the data is both enciphered and deciphered. The data is enciphered using the biometric key produced at the enrollment step, which is subsequently deciphered during the authentication stage after a successful biometric match. The experiments are carried out on two databased namely: Mathematical Analysis of Images and Universidade da Beira Interior Periocular Recognition. The outcomes are contrasted with state-of-the-art methods on the basis various performance metrics like: Cr, MSE, NPCR etc. The stated technique’s resilience is evaluated by launching S&P interference. The suggested method outperforms in most of the performance metrics, thus making it suitable to use in security applications.
