Slide preparation: general hints for graphs and charts
Jane Fraser, Richard Cave · 2023
Graphs and charts are one of the most effective ways to show relationships between data or ideas - but it’s easy to get carried away and overload them with information. Presenters&s; have all seen presentations in which complex graphs or incomprehensible charts have flowed one after another in a continuous stream. Graphs are quicker to understand at a glance than tables, so if the same data could be presented equally well with a graph or a table, choose the graph. PowerPoint allows presenters to draw graphs and charts with a minimum of trouble using raw data entered into a datasheet. Using the PowerPoint tools is the simplest way to make a professional-looking graph - provided, of course, that presenters have access to the original data or can easily obtain it by measuring a graph from someone else’s paper.
