Applications of IoTSG in Smart Industrial Monitoring Environments

T. Mohanasundaram, S.C. Vetrivel, V. Krishnamoorthy · 2023

The Internet of Things and Smart Grid (IoTSG) applications have a broader application in the industrial monitoring environment, including workflow automation, predictive maintenance, inventory monitoring, alerting in the event of any deviations, remote equipment management, quality control, supply chain optimization, and so on. Smart grid enhances transmission line operation and allow for speedier system restoration following a fault. It also helps to reduce power costs. In this chapter, the authors investigate the use of IoTSG in energy management, which is critical in every industrial unit. IoTSG is crucial in the monitoring, control, and conservation of energy in the industrial environment. The function and uses of IoTSG in the banking, automobile, and healthcare sectors are thoroughly examined in this chapter. Banking, as an industry, is critical to the economic stability of the country. IoT has a big impact on many aspects of the banking business, including customer relationship management, lending sanctioning, customer service, leasing finance automation, and so on. Similarly, the smart grid uses cutting-edge technologies to solve difficulties with energy systems in banks. Smart grids play an important role in reducing energy usage in banks by supplementing renewable energy and the green environment. The deployment of IoTSG in automobiles is critical. Better fleet and driver management, predictive maintenance, real-time vehicle telematics, and in-car infotainment are all made possible by IoT. IoT applications are also critical in linked autos and fleet management. With electric vehicles gaining popularity in recent years, the smart grid has the potential to revolutionise the face of the automobile industry. IoT enables healthcare professionals to be more watchful and engage with patients proactively. Data collected from IoT devices can help doctors and surgeons choose the optimal treatment plan for their patients. IoT devices equipped with sensors are utilised to determine the real-time position of medical equipment. The deployment of medical personnel at various sites may also be analysed in real-time. Smart microgrids may be used to successfully control hospital energy costs. IoTSG is a technology-enabled network that enables people to accomplish more with fewer resources. As all industries require better energy management, the scope of IoTSG is expected to go up in future as the new applications of these smart devices are expected to be explored continuously.
