The existing software-defined radio (SDR) platform is based on the integrated transceiver and field programmable gate array (FPGA), whose carrier frequency is limited and circuit design is relatively complex. To improve the performance, an SDR platform using only FPGA is proposed in this paper. The circuit design of platform is given. An all-digital transmitter (ADT) based on the MPWM is implemented on the FPGA chip and the design method is expounded. Experimental results show the maximum carrier frequency of the platform is over 12 GHz, much higher than the transceiver-based SDR platform. Meanwhile, the circuit architecture is much simpler because only FPGA chip is used.
