Spectral Clustering of Virus Spread through Computer Network
Andrea Barnett, Jing Guo · 2023
Advancement in medicine has created technological devices that can pinpoint radiation, show the veins underneath the skin, and share patient files instantaneously. While these advancements contribute to better patient care, they also open healthcare organizations to malware. A software virus will spread through a computer network, being able to infect an entire hospital in just seconds. To prevent complete shutdowns of healthcare organizations, there needs to be a way to predict the spread of such malware. This paper will use Graph Laplacian to obtain information on how a virus spreads through a network for a short period. Using spectral clustering will organize the infected computer devices into groups, potentially showing where the virus would be most likely to spread. By encapsulating the virus, the auto-managing software can shut off a portion of the hospital, leaving the rest open for operation.
